How to Do a Mid-Year Reset: 3 Questions to Help You Refocus Before Summer

It is hard to believe we are already approaching the halfway point of the year.

January often begins with plans, goals, and intentions. By June, many of us are simply trying to keep up with the pace of daily life.

Work becomes busy.

Family responsibilities grow.

Unexpected opportunities and challenges appear.

A mid-year reset is not about judging your progress or creating another list of things you should be doing.

Instead, it is an opportunity to pause, reflect, and reconnect with what matters most before moving into the second half of the year.

Why a Mid-Year Reset Matters

Many people move through the year without stopping to notice what is working and what is no longer serving them.

Taking a few minutes to reflect can help create clarity, reduce overwhelm, and provide direction for the months ahead.

The goal is not perfection.

The goal is awareness.

Question #1: What Is Working Well Right Now?

Before focusing on what needs to change, begin by recognizing what is already supporting you.

Ask yourself:

  • What habits are helping me feel my best?

  • What relationships am I grateful for?

  • What accomplishments have I overlooked?

Often the things we take for granted are the very things helping us move forward.

Take a moment to acknowledge them.

Question #2: What Needs Less of My Attention?

Not everything deserves equal energy.

Sometimes growth comes from adding something new.

Other times it comes from letting something go.

Consider:

  • What is creating unnecessary stress?

  • What obligations could be simplified?

  • What am I spending time on that no longer feels meaningful?

A reset can be as simple as creating a little more space.

Question #3: What Would Help Me Feel More Supported?

Support looks different for everyone.

For some, it may be a consistent movement practice.

For others, it may be creating a quiet corner for reflection, journaling, reading, or meditation.

Ask yourself:

  • What would help me feel more grounded?

  • What would make my daily routine easier?

  • What small change could create a positive ripple effect?

Focus on one small step rather than a complete overhaul.

Creating Space for Reflection

A meaningful pause does not require a retreat, a new planner, or a perfect schedule.

Sometimes it begins with creating a comfortable place to sit, breathe, and think.

Whether it is a favourite chair, a corner of your home, or a quiet moment in your day, having supportive tools nearby can make it easier to return to that practice.

Many people find that simple supports such as a meditation cushion, yoga bolster, blanket, or journal help create a more inviting space for reflection.

A Simple Mid-Year Reset Practice

Set aside five minutes.

Take a comfortable seat.

Take a few slow breaths.

Then write your answers to these three questions:

  1. What is working well right now?

  2. What needs less of my attention?

  3. What would help me feel more supported?

You do not need perfect answers.

You simply need a place to begin.
